Voter Eligibility

To Register to Vote in the State of Kentucky you must:

  1. Be a U.S. Citizen and a Kentucky resident for at least 28 days before the election.

  2. Be at least 18 years old by the date of the next general election

Only 17? If you will be 18 by the November general election, you are eligible to vote in the prior May primary election.

  3. Not be a convicted felon or, if convicted of a felony offense, you must have had your civil rights restored.

Many people with prior non-violent felony convictions have had their voting rights restored by the Governor’s Executive Order in December 2019. Learn more here. Check to see if your voting rights have been restored here. If “inconclusive” or other questions, call the DOC at (502) 782-9731.

  4. Not have been judged "mentally incompetent" in a court of law

  5. Not claim the right to vote anywhere outside Kentucky
